Your Life At The Old Convent
Moving into a care home to stay full time is a big life change and one that you're bound to have many questions about. We've tried to answer a few of the most common ones below to help you form a picture of what your life at The Old Convent will be like.
If there's anything we've missed or you'd like to have a chat about your requirements please don't hesitate to call us on 01492 532788 or feel free to drop in anytime.
Where will I be staying
As it's name suggest the home was once the Colwyn Bay Convent of Mercy and it still has a Christian Chapel on site.
At 31 beds, it's 'Goldilocks' sized - not so small that it's cramped and claustrophobic and not so big that it's impersonal and institutional like. In fact it's just right.
There are two spacious day rooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor, both with a well stocked library and TV. These are great places for meeting the new friends you'll make, having a chat, reading or just watching your favourite TV shows.
There is an activities room where you can get involved in the daily activities (see below) and a lovely bright and sunny conservatory overlooking the gardens. This is a great place to sit and relax and also has access out into the garden and it's seating area.
All the signage in the home is in both Welsh and English to suit your preference.
Does the home have a garden
The home has beautiful gardens with full wheelchair access throughout. The grounds are beautifully manicured and feature lovely flowers that bloom throughout the year creating a delightfully colourful and fragrant place to spend your time.
There is outside seating where you can sit and have a natter with friends or simply enjoy the gardens and the view.
We also have mature planting beds and a vegetable patch that have been planted by our residents. The garden is very much for using so if you have green fingers you're more than welcome to join in with the planting and growing.
What will my room be like
Your room will be tastefully decorated, bright, spacious and airy with a lovely view. It will have an en-suite with toilet, shower and wash basin for maximum convenience and comfort.
It will be very well equipped with a profiling bed, wardrobe, dressing table, a bedside cabinet, a set of drawers, an arm chair and an additional chair at the dressing table.
However, this is your home so you're more than welcome to bring your own ornaments, mementos, small items of furniture and other treasures to make it all your own.
What will I be doing every day
You are of course free to spend your day as you wish. If you feel like a bit of quiet time to read and think there are plenty of places in the home to do just that. The home also has WiFi throughout if your one of the increasing army of silver surfers who like to use the internet.
If you're in the mood to get involved then you'll find The Old Convent is a great place with a variety of different activities and entertainments every day. These include visiting entertainers, numerous games and quizzes, a mobile shop and an honesty shop, a salon for visiting hairdressers so you can have your hair done, a visiting chiropodist and much more besides.
We want you and your family to be involved and become part of the community so we hold fetes, fayres and celebrations where all are welcome. We have raffles and celebrate themed days, birthdays, national
and religious days and local festivals.
All in all there's never a dull moment and always lots of fun and laughter!
What facilities are there nearby
Although located in a quiet residential suburb, the home is actually just 10 minutes walk from the town centre and sea front. There are local shops, a supermarket, Post Office, fish and chip shop, florist and cafes all nearby.
The home is easily accessible by car, on a local bus route, and the train station is not far away in the town centre. So you can easily travel if you have the urge and your friends and family will be able to visit you regardless of their mode of travel.
We are also close to 3 doctors surgeries should you ever need to visit your local GP.
